More about our centre

Our Benefits

Avonside Early Childhood centre has been the hub of the community since 1943. It’s a small and personable centre with experienced teachers who provide a family centered environment.

  • High-Quality Education and Care

Avonside has a long-standing reputation for providing high-quality education and care. Established in the 1940s, it continues to offer a nurturing environment. The experienced teaching team is passionate about early childhood education and committed to maintaining excellence.

  • Learning-Based Play Curriculum

The centre follows a curriculum that links to the principles and strands of Te Whāriki, the early childhood curriculum. Children engage in learning through play, exploring their interests, building life skills, and gaining confidence. Infants and toddlers receive caring interactions from attentive teachers who know them well.

  • Small, Home-Like Environment

At Avonside, your child will experience a small, home-like environment where each child is seen and valued. This personalised setting fosters meaningful interactions and supports individual growth.

  • Community Connection

Avonside Early Childhood Centre is well-regarded within the community. Families have entrusted their children to Avonside for generations. This sense of community creates a supportive network for both parents and children.

The AECC approach

What makes us unique

Operated as a not-for-profit center, Avonside Early Childhood Centre is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees made up from dedicated Parents of past or present children that make up the Avonside whānau. One of the board’s key initiatives is to ensure that their quality services remain accessible to all families. As a result, the center keeps its fees affordable and its ratios low.

Avonside Early Childhood Centre provides many wrap-around services for its whānau and works with outside agencies such as Delta Community Services to provide food parcels, transport for outings, advice and guidance services. We also have Plunket to provide resources and education for families. We have the Climate Action Campus behind us that we visit regularly and provide us with sustainability resources and opportunities. We have established relationships with various people and groups that donate goods, such as books for early literacy, knitting to keep us warm through winter, clothing parcels, plants for our gardens and other resources and information.
