Our daily routine

What our day looks like at Avonside

Around 8.30 Ngā tamariki start to arrive and get busy exploring.

When everyone has arrived, we gather on the mat for our morning hui, to sing songs, have stories or move our bodies. After our hui we say karakia and head to the bathroom to wash hands before kai times.

We sit together to enjoy kai from our kai kete, enjoying the snacks our whānau have provided us with.

After kai, we head outside to explore, or we stay inside to extend our creativity with construction, art, baking, dough and other experiences.

This is when our kaiako lead our care rituals such as nappy changing, toilet reminders and morning sleeps for our younger pepe.

We continue to explore and enjoy friendships and social experiences with our kaiako and friends till lunchtime. We then come inside, or on warmer days enjoy kai outside under our big tree with a picnic.

After lunch some of our friends go for a sleep, and we continue to explore both inside and outside with the experiences our kaiako have set up for us.

Afternoon care rituals continue, and if we are hungry, we can have afternoon tea.

Around 3pm as our day comes to a close, we have another hui to celebrate the learning we achieved, and we enjoy a story time, songs, music and dancing or a game together.

Occasionally our day will look different, and we celebrate visitors into centre, or walks and excursions out to explore our wider community.

We then say “ka kite” to our friends and head home when our whānau arrive.

Important Dates:

Centre closed on public holidays and for a longer period over Christmas / New Year – there is no charge over this period.
